Remain 1

Enrollment is open

Study Overview

The Remain 1 Study is a clinical study exploring the first non-drug alternative for weight maintenance in obesity. This study evaluates a procedure called Revita®, which is like a upper GI endoscopy.

During an upper GI endoscopy, a doctor will look at your upper intestine using a long flexible tube with a camera so the doctor can see your intestine close up and maybe take pictures of it. Revita targets the lining of the duodenum and uses heat to remove the thickened or unhealthy lining so your body can regrow a new healthy lining capable of potentially helping you to restore gut-brain signaling to maintain weight loss after stopping a GLP-1 based drug.

There is no surgery involved, no sutures, or anything implanted in your body during the procedure. You will go home soon after waking up, once recovered from anesthesia. People can do normal activities the next day.

  • You may be able to take part in the Remain 1 study if:

    • Losing weight is achievable but keeping it off after stopping a weight loss drug is hard

    • Are between 21–70 years of age

    • Have a body mass index (BMI) between 30-45

    • Have tried to lose weight before by changing diet

Please note that this list is not extensive. If you are interested in participating, a staff member will review additional eligibility criteria with you and answer any questions you may have.

  • The Remain 1 Study consists of 3 periods:

Screening Period (varies): This includes up to 7 study visits at the study center or your home. It is during this period that it is determined if the study is suitable for you. The study doctor and dietitians will work with you to start the weekly GLP-1 based drug and continue until you have reach a minimum of 15% body weight loss. After the weight loss goal is achieved, you will stop the GLP-1 based drug.

Day of DMR Procedure (1 day): You will visit the study center to have the procedure, which is expected to last approximately one hour, and go home the same day. The study team will review with you a modified diet to be followed for 14 days.

Follow-Up Period (about 1 year): This will consist of 5 study visits and 9 phone calls. It is during this period that your progress will be monitored.
